Coalition Calls on Legislature to Stop Cuts to NJ FamilyCare and Charity Care

“NJ For Health Care, a broad-based consumer health care coalition representing over 60 organizations and over 2 million residents across the State opposes cuts to critical health care programs that serve New Jersey working families and our State’s most vulnerable residents. On February 11, 2010 Governor Christie signed Executive Order 14, cutting funds for a number of critical State programs including NJ FamilyCare and Charity Care. Now is not the time to cut funding for programs that provide affordable health coverage for families and children.

Weinberg/Gordon Measure Would Require Hospitals To Adopt Conflicts Of Interest Policy

TRENTON -- A measure sponsored by Senators Loretta Weinberg and Bob Gordon which would require hospital boards of trustees to adopt a policy regulating conflicts of interest on the part of board members was approved today by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee.

US Labor Department’s OSHA issues compliance directive to address flu prevention for health care workers

WASHINGTON – For the protection of frontline health care and emergency medical workers at high risk of infection, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today issued a compliance directive to ensure uniform procedures when conducting inspections to identify and minimize or eliminate high to very high risk occupational exposures to the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus.

Statement of Ann Twomey, President of HPAE In Response to Bayonne Medical Center Plan to Withdraw Layoff of Staff

As a result of continued talks between HPAE, the union representing 850 nurses and health care workers, and the management of Bayonne Medical Center, plans by the hospital to layoff 35 staff have been put on hold for at least 60 days.
